Promises are made to be kept! Here from now on the interview of Angelo, the owner of this company of importation of discus.

Yann Fanatik-discus: Angelo, still thank you for your reception in your buildings and of your sympathy; can you say to us since how long exists Guarani discus?

Angelo Guarani discus: Guarani Discus initially exists since September 2007 as a hobbyist then like professional in February 2009.

Y FD: Before creating your company the discus was a hobby, can you tell us?

AGD: My passion for Discus started in 1988, at the time I had an aquarium of 300 liters, I did not make the preparations of water as today because Internet did not exist. I made several kilometers to get the few books available to me. After one sometimes hard period of training, my efforts started to pay and it is only into 1994 that I had my first reproduction of discus with a couple red turquoise.

Y FD: Guarani discus why this name for your company?

A GD: In winter 2004 and 2005 I spent a few months to Amazonia where I discovered people and the splendid culture of Brazil of which the Guarani Indians. It is then that it to me the idea had just used the name "Guarani Discus" for my company.

Y FD: Many discus lovers' dream to go to see the discus in their natural environment, you who lived in Brazil, have some beautiful anecdotes to tell us on this subject?

A GD: During several years I followed the occupation of instructor of diving what enabled me to visit several countries and several cultures. One of my more beautiful diving was carried out in Amazonia or I could meet the wild discus, the first time that I saw it in wild environment it were an enormous emotion I wanted some still and still. For this period I had the occasion to meet my supplier of wild discus.

Y FD: How many aquariums counts your structure?

A GD: My structure currently counts 40 aquariums of 300 liters and 1 of 2000 liters for the hybrid discus, 6 aquariums of 300 liters and 1 of 2500 liters for the wild discus.10 aquariums for the quarantine.

Y FD: Your aquariums are individually filtered; what is the goal?

A GD: My aquariums are individually filtered to avoid all proliferations in the event of disease or of water problem.

Y FD: When I came to meet you, only hybrid discus were present, new aquariums were awaited, hope to increase your choice in hybrid discus?

A GD: There remain to me still 50m2 of unoccupied surface which I reserve for the hybrid discus. Because I will want for spring 2010 to arrive at about fifty varieties of hybrid discus.

Y FD: With regard to the water for your discus, how proceed?

A GD: For the preparation of my water, I use demineralized  water by ion exchange, the system which is first of all filtered with a particle filter and a coal filter. Then this water is re-mineralized with Preis mineral salt for discus and is brought to good parameters (pH, GH, KH, Conductivity, etc)

Y FD: With which frequency ensure you the water changes? 

A GD: I make my changes of water every day, 1/3 the morning and cleaning of the bottom of the aquariums the evening, what makes 50%.

Y FD: Which type of filtration use?

A GD: I use a filtration with internal decantation for each aquarium. Filtration is formed of blue foam, organic pearls (note bacterial support) and of the white wadding.

Y FD: With regard to do this filtration, have a particular maintenance?

AGD: I do not have particular maintenance for my filtration; I just once change per week the white wadding which saturate of sediments.

Y FD: How much times do you feed your discus?

A GD: The discus are feed 2 times per day, of the Sera pellets in the morning and my own recipe the evening. Sunday the fish are not feed.

Y FD: How long acclimatize your discus before putting them on sale? 

A GD: I acclimatize my Discus about ten days for the hybrids and about fifteen days for the wild.

Y FD: How much varieties propose with the sale?

A GD: Currently I have about thirty hybrid varieties of discus. For the wild I hope to obtain about fifteen varieties, for the moment my aquariums are out of water but not yet ready to accommodate fish.

Y FD: At the time of my visit, you proposed many albino varieties: Do you think that those can make fury in Europe as it is the case in Asia? 

A GD: It is true that the Albino discus is not very known in Europe, the customers who come here are rather curious to see this fish with the red eyes. Some confuse them with sea water fish. I have 25% Albino Leopard discus which are sold very well; you see that will come gradually!

Y FD: Angelo, you have forcing a "favorite variety" can you speak to us about your discus preferred?

A GD: I like all the discus!!! But it is true that I have a weakness for the discus Albinos and Red.

Y FD: Few weeks ago you projected an arrival of discus wild when it?

A GD: That made three months that my company is opened and I think that I gradually progress. The manufacture of the aquariums for the wild discus took 1 month of late delay and I excuse myself some towards those which are pressed and which await them. But I promise to all these people that Guarani Discus will provide them wild discus of very first quality.

Y FD: Which are your projects for "Guarani discus"?

A GD: I have many projects for Guarani Discus, first is to organize seminars with biologists on the discus and Amazonia. Heiko Bleher and myself sums under discussion on this subject.
The project which really holds me with heart from here a few times when Guarani Discus well is installed and ground is to organize the first international championship of discus in Geneva.

Y FD: Do Angelo, which(S) advice(S) could you give for the faithful readers of Fanatik-discus?

A GD: Accumulate the maximum of information and always with very qualified persons.
